OT in this calculator: net worked time above your chosen daily threshold is counted as OT. It estimates hours and value; it does not determine legal entitlement.
Day-by-day breakdown

Worked time, shortfall and OT by day

Hours are shown as hh:mm and decimal where useful. Decimal time is what spreadsheets usually need for multiplication.

How to calculate working hours with a break

Worked time = clock-out − clock-in − unpaid break. For example, 09:30 to 18:30 is 9 hours on site. With a 60-minute unpaid break, net worked time is 8 hours.

If the out time is earlier than the in time, this calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight. A 21:00 to 06:00 shift is therefore 9 hours before breaks.

Why decimal hours matter

Hours and minutes are not the same as decimal hours. 7h 30m is 7.50 hours, not 7.30. Likewise, 7h 45m is 7.75. The calculator keeps the human-readable hh:mm view while also giving decimal totals for spreadsheet or payroll checks.

How overtime is calculated in this tool

You choose the daily OT threshold. Any net worked time above that threshold is counted as OT. If you add an OT rate per hour, the calculator multiplies OT hours by that rate.

This is intentionally configurable. Overtime entitlement and statutory rates can depend on the establishment, state, worker category, employment terms and applicable law. Use the threshold and rate that apply to your situation.

Common questions

Can I use this for overnight or night shifts?

Yes. When the out time is earlier than the in time, the calculator assumes the shift ended the next day.

Should paid breaks be entered?

Enter only time you want deducted from worked hours. If a break is treated as paid working time under your policy, leave it out of the break deduction.

Does this calculator decide the legal overtime rate in India?

No. It measures time and applies the OT threshold and hourly OT rate you enter. It does not determine statutory entitlement or substitute for legal or payroll-compliance advice.

Can I use the decimal total in a salary sheet?

Yes, as a time input. For attendance-linked monthly salary and LOP calculations, use the Kavit Attendance Salary Calculator.
